嘉義縣文化觀光局於義竹鄉中正堂外觀及週邊環境進行空間藝術改造，邀請有村藝術團隊以巧思融入地方活動空間，將原本雜草叢生的廣場變成繽紛又活力的「義竹人廣場」，藝術裝置主題包含地方老照片、特色物產、鄉土文化、居民創作等特色，今（2）日上午縣長翁章梁、義竹鄉長黃阿家、縣議員蔡瑋傑、黃金茂、文觀局長許有仁等人共同剪綵啟用。
現場空間規劃有「YIJHU入口意象」、「義竹製造大型壁畫」、「義竹語錄」、「來坐小屋」等主題創作，更舉辦16場次「藝術行動工作坊」，邀請義竹老中青幼共同創作，今日一同展出，參與創作的大小朋友們都興奮地與自己的作品合照，百位鄉親熱情參與，直呼好漂亮。

從小在義竹長大的翁章梁表示，舊有建築經設計、規劃後，都能變得耀眼奪目，今天來到義竹鄉親都很孰悉的中正堂，在藝術工作者努力下，改造成「義竹人廣場」，藝術團隊將所有義竹特色融入作品，非常有創意，在地人都很歡樂，扶老攜幼共襄盛舉；未來的改造計畫「義竹三春」，將針對公園、堤防、老人文康中心、鄉公所前的日本宿舍一一改造，目的是讓舊的鄉鎮注入新藝術元素，相信用心規劃，必定讓鄉親耳目一新！
文觀局局長許有仁指出，此次向農委會水土保持局申請農村再生基金800萬，以及縣府配合款180萬，共980萬元執行「110年度嘉義縣海線鄉鎮活力妝點示範計畫」，以義竹鄉中正堂周邊作為計畫改善示範區，今年11月22日竣工。

鄉親紛紛表示，義竹多了安全且舒適的大型廣場，地板上色後，變的很明亮、繽紛，遠看非常吸睛，「義竹製造」壁畫上有大大義竹二字、牆面上充滿魚、番茄、哈密瓜、玉米等在地特色，色彩豔麗；此外還有塗鴉藝術家「黑雞先生」與義竹國中美術班學子共同創作的「義見你就chill」，將塗鴉顏料及回收衣物編織兩樣媒材結合，相當亮眼。
「義竹人廣場」位於台19線主要幹道旁，是進入義竹的明顯地標，此次藝術改造對外展現了義竹人青春活力，盼過年遊子返鄉能感受到故鄉變美了，未來想必也會成為打卡的新地標。
