生長在屏東滿州東源部落的鍾秀美老師利用満州隨手可取得的月桃葉來製作各式藝品及生活小物，外出籃、背包、杯墊和鑰匙圈，每個來東源部落的遊客們可以體驗原民文化的創意手作，早期原住民會編織這樣的背包籃方便上山採物，甚至可以從編法看出是哪一族人。

排灣族的編籃，主要材料為籐、竹或月桃，多是自己家中編製，且家家戶戶都有。過去編製各式編器，多是男子的基本工作，現今製作者則多以女性為主，現在材料多元化也以各色尼龍或塑膠製材編製成特具排灣風格的編器。

月桃葉鞘是原民族人傳統生活中不可或缺的自然素材，月桃葉鞘編織前有多道工序，從採集、除葉、曝曬、剝取、順葉，每道步驟不可馬虎。葉鞘樸實簡潔，纖維強韌耐用，編織成日常生活置物籃，有著濃厚的自然感。

編籃為日常盛置器具之一，多用以盛裝檳榔、樹豆或小米、芋頭等農作物，亦可放置衣服、飾品等個人物品。排灣族編籃的用途相當廣泛，是過去排灣族主要的收納工具，早期排灣男子皆會依各種不同的收納用途，製作大小、功能合適的編籃。
