台南的172線是連接台南後壁與白河間的重要道路，也是國道1號與國道3號之間的東西向公路，是在賴清德擔任市長時規劃，黃偉哲上任後開工，歷經三年施工終於在今日通車。今日111年11月11日，在上午11時11分11秒，黃偉哲也與賴清德副總統一起出席172線拓寬通車典禮。

市長黃偉哲表示，這次工程不只整頓交通，也增加排水並修建橋梁，在172線道路舖設的過程中，也修建側溝與排水箱涵，並拓寬沿線經過的橋梁，增加通水斷面，讓大雨時的水流能夠暢通。所以今年遇到急降雨，安溪寮聚落的積水問題大幅改善，當地居民都跟區長表示有感，往來白河的民眾也跟區長說，這裡路變大條不積水，大家雨天行車更安全。

賴清德副總統表示，市政是一種延續，要讓有同樣理念的人接續完成，過去他當市長時，還沒有前瞻經費，但因為這條道是串連新營工業區、後壁蘭花生技園區、白河關子嶺，也是東山農產品運輸的重要道路，當時就編列11億來拓寬172線。賴清得也肯定黃偉哲市長率領的團隊，將他的規劃延續動工，要一棒接一棒，讓台南更棒。

市道172線，連接國一跟國三，串連了新營工業區、臺灣蘭花生技園區、關子嶺風景區，這條20米道路拓寬計畫在賴清德副擔任市長時提出規劃，黃偉哲上任後延續並加速辦理拓寬工程，從12米拓寬為20米，提高了車流量，更改善了當地的排水。
