《這個好》台南鹽分地種出好滋味 學甲西瓜、北門洋香瓜甘甜美麗

說到台南沿海地帶的學甲、北門，一般民眾的印象是虱目魚的故鄉，養殖業發達，但這裡不只有養魚的「海口人」，還有很會種瓜的「做田人」，這兩個地方的土壤帶有鹽分，但栽培出來的瓜果卻是香甜多汁，讓人吃過就難忘，學甲西瓜、北門洋香瓜都正值產季，雖然今年老天不幫忙，產量大減，但更顯得物以稀為貴。

五一連假首日、學甲及北門區公所都舉辦行銷活動，雖然受到氣候影響，歉收狀況嚴重，瓜農還是相當捧場，把自家上得了檯面的瓜全運到會場，活動9點登場，攤位前就早就有人排隊，民眾看了笑說「比快篩試劑還搶手」。
4000斤的西瓜、2000斤的洋香瓜沒一下子就秒殺，10點多才來的人根本就買不到了，在學甲西瓜節的場子裡，向隅的民眾，甚至還想把參加評鑑的西瓜打包帶走，沒好氣的說「西瓜節怎麼買不到瓜！」

學甲西瓜產地在頂洲八掌溪畔，在得天獨厚鹽地栽種，農民栽種技術又好，市場評價很高，但因農村缺工又遇到雨災，今年西瓜種植剩20公頃、產量不到2成。
北門洋香瓜則以卡蜜拉（紅肉）、香華（綠肉）品種居多，產地以錦湖里為主，分兩季栽種，冬季種植面積約70公頃，本季春季栽種約20公頃，一樣在鹽地栽種，香氣濃郁、甜度高，農會還自創HARU品牌行銷，今年受到天候影響，春季產量僅剩3成。
北門洋香瓜多種植在錦湖裡一帶，甜度很高，栽培品種也逐漸增加。(莊兆暉攝)
今年的西瓜評鑑有21位農民參賽，最後由郭茂生奪冠，獲得「學甲西瓜王」榮耀，亞軍蔡瓊蕙、季軍則是郭蔡麗雲，郭茂生與蔡瓊蕙更是夫妻檔包辦冠、亞軍。
巧合的是，去年學甲西瓜評鑑勇奪冠亞軍的，在學甲經營永琳農園的郭茂永、莊曉琳夫婦，正是郭茂生的弟弟、弟媳，郭家是頂洲已經是第四代瓜農，種瓜功夫了得。
