屏東市公所為防患未然，守護市民生命、財產安全，降低因樹木傾倒遭受損害風險，代理市長程清水指示即日起全面展開「屏東市公園及道路樹木預防意外改善計畫」，特別邀約前屏科大植物醫學系教授梁文進老師，為市所管護公園及行道樹木進行全面健檢，透過及早發現褐根病害及早防治，讓植栽健康美觀，打造生趣盎然、宜居城市。
褐根病，俗稱「樹癌」，顧名思義是樹根出現褐色菌絲塊，當病灶可見時，往往已病入膏肓難以救治，更嚴重的是這種病會透過樹木根部傳播給周邊的樹木及土壤，影響甚巨。

代理市長程清水表示，樹木傾倒造成人車損傷事件時有所聞，尤其在颱風季節，已經染病的樹木，不堪強風暴雨無預警傾倒，危及市民生命、財產安全，必須嚴加防治。樹木跟人一樣，也會生病，只是樹木不會說話，只能藉由專業的樹醫師健康檢查，才能察覺病灶，對症治療。
梁教授素有樹界名醫美譽，本次受邀實地會勘轄內各大公園及養護路樹，發現部分樹木黃化、凋萎枯槁，已然遭受褐根真菌入侵，建議首先將染病的樹木樹根挖除、消毒土壤、避免傳染其他健康植栽，杜絕褐根病蔓延風險；其次派員加強目視觀察褐根病熱區巡查；此外，也建議逐步更換更具抗病性、適合生長的樹種，如茄冬樹、樟樹等。
除了依照專家學者建議優先移除染病的樹木、逐步更換樹種，市公所也會遵循景觀樹木修剪規範修剪樹木，用心護樹，打造生趣盎然、宜居城市。
