台南東山區「東山碧軒寺」
本寺供奉觀世音菩薩，東山人的信仰中心，延綿不斷的觀音香火。來到了這邊，映入眼簾的是廟門口站立的兩隻白色大象，說明了這個外表和一般道教廟宇無異的建築，其實是一間佛寺。 在佛教的傳說中，佛陀乘著白象入胎，所以用大象紀念佛陀降誕人間；另外一個說法則是，陸地上力量最大的是大象，象徵了堅忍負重、承擔普渡眾生的責任，因此白象常作為寺廟的聖獸。

東山庄民們於每年農曆12月23日以徒步方式沿山路而上，護送佛祖回鑾碧雲寺過年，至農曆正月初九、初十再舉行隆重的返駕大典，循古香路恭迎「正二媽」回碧軒寺奉祀，此即為著名的「東山迎佛祖」活動，傳承至今已逾一個半世紀。「東山迎佛祖」每年定時定期舉行，「古香路」不因時代變遷及工業化而改變，過程中之「換香」、「換轎」、「換花」三換習俗亦為在地獨有。
