恆春半島居民醫療受到中央重視，行政院長蘇貞昌去年視察恆春旅遊醫院重建工程時，指示經費跟設備一次到位，並核定補助工程款1億1300多萬元，今（2）日舉行上梁典禮，預計在明年6月完工，將增設核磁共振、心導管儀與高壓氧艙設備等，提供民眾嶄新的醫療設備與服務。

部立恆春旅遊醫院重建醫療大樓工程歷經6次招標，終於在2020年6月順利發包，總工程費3億7,000多萬元，在行政院、屏東縣政府、衛生福利部各方努力下，全案再爭取補助工程款1億1,300餘萬元，同年8月動土，今天上梁，主建物預計10月完成，最快明年6月完工。
恆春旅遊醫院是當地唯一一所公立醫院，不但在疫情期間收治中重症病患，平時還得負起緊急醫療、公共衛生、部落及無醫村巡迴醫療責任，新的醫療大樓是地上8樓建物，未來落成啟用，將擴增急性一般病床、加護病床、洗腎病床、安寧病房外，同時預計增加核磁共振、心導管儀與高壓氧艙等檢查醫療設備，滿足恆春半島及旅遊民眾醫療需求。

屏東縣長潘孟安說，恆春旅遊醫院、恆春基督教醫院、南門醫院等，對恆春島鄉親就像鵝鑾鼻燈塔，照亮有醫療需求民眾的心，他希望施工單位加速工程施設，且人員訓練、招募增聘都要同步執行，盼衛福部能寬列預算，提供醫護人員住宿，安心為半島鄉親服務。
潘孟安指出，上梁典禮對恆春的醫療史而言也是新的里程碑，期待工程順利完工、盡快營運，因為時時刻刻都在跟時間、搶救生命賽跑；立委周春米則說，從拆除到工程動工，她5年前開始協調恆春旅遊醫院的重建計畫，好事多磨，終於見證到上梁。

恆春旅遊醫院長徐國芳說，未來持續與縣府、各醫學中心合作，引進優質醫療設備並提升醫療品質，共同縮短醫療城鄉差距，逐步改善醫療設備及醫事人力不足的問題，守護屏南地區民眾健康。
