台灣釋迦西部最大產區就在台南歸仁區，目前正值採收期，以「大目仔」品種為主，市場評價不錯，地方舉辦釋迦節產業活動已經邁入第24年，7日歸仁區公所在釋迦節中舉辦第一屆「釋迦王」評選，首獎由農民徐正雄拿下，他的參賽釋迦將近2台斤重，相當厲害。

台南市長黃偉哲上午出席釋迦節開幕儀式，他也現場推廣特色產業，一一為參加農特產展售會的農民及攤商加油打氣，也自掏腰包力挺在地農會的愛心義賣、關懷弱勢。
黃偉哲致詞時說，歸仁釋迦節從原台南縣府時代就舉辦迄今，已經進入第24年，經過大家的攜手努力，也逐漸替地方特產打開知名度，從早期「整簍賣的」，已經逐漸建立口碑，現在可是一顆一顆在賣，而且銷售通路也越來越廣，感謝農民用心栽培與付出，市府也會繼續努力行銷。

根據農業局資料指出，台南釋迦種植面積約77公頃，年產量在1154公噸左右，其中歸仁就有62公頃、934公噸，占了8成以上，是台灣西部重要產區；今年首度登場的「釋迦王」評選，吸引13人報名，由農民徐正雄掄元，歸仁區崙頂里長徐進德則以1.833斤的些微差距屈居第二，第3名為黃其發，果重1.775斤。

現場還有超過40位農民進駐展售，今年釋迦產量有限，但品質很突出，人潮湧至選購，當地知名的長安製麵應邀到場設攤，買氣熱絡，區公所推出的風味饗宴與文創提袋等也全部售罄，場面熱烈。
