111年度第21屆全國躲避球錦標賽臺南市共有3隊參賽，3隊皆獲得優異成績，分別為佳里國小獲國小女童組季軍、佳里國中獲國中女生組冠軍及國中男生組季軍，其中佳里國中男女生組皆是第一年成軍就獲得佳績，表現亮眼，創新南市躲避球全國賽紀錄。
黃偉哲市長表示，臺南市國小的躲避球風氣興盛，但國中端是首次報名參賽，今年適逢疫情嚴峻時期，對教練及選手的挑戰很大，在停課期間，小球員們自發性地在住家附近的公園自主訓練，疫情趨緩開放選手集訓後，球隊也積極利用課餘時間加緊訓練，即便是第一次參賽，選手們也絲毫不畏懼，勇敢且沉著面對各縣市優秀選手，其中佳里國中女生組在四強賽及冠軍賽中都先處於落後，最終皆以2:0逆轉勝贏得冠軍。

體育局陳良乾局長表示，佳里國小參加女童組的賽事時，預賽一路過關斬將，首度進入四強賽，雖無緣冠亞軍戰，但在季軍戰與宜蘭中山國小激戰到第三局最終由佳里國小勝出，拼戰精神及態度贏得滿堂喝采。成軍第一年的佳里國中男子躲避球隊，第一天賽事就以分組第一晉級，在四強戰中第二局從落後到僅輸一人的拉鋸戰及第三局比分緊咬的拉鋸戰，最終以堅毅不拔的精神贏得比賽，以季軍作收。
體育局表示，南市躲避球選手於全國錦標賽榮獲佳績，寫下本市躲避球新的里程碑，其中佳里國中選手也積極備戰接下來於10月登場的全民運動會，期許這些選手們能夠延續積極奮戰的精神面對接下來的每一場賽事。
