屏東海生館長期致力於海洋生態教育的推廣，不斷地努力於生物復育及照護，希望讓民眾對共存於這片土地上的生物有多一點了解。而近日皎潔雪白的極地區內瞬間充滿了溫馨的粉紅色泡泡，原來是迎來了鳳頭海鸚鵡新生寶寶：海鸚鵡寶寶出生時那一身炭黑色的毛茸茸外表，彷彿宮崎駿動畫裡的小煤球角色，睜開雙眼探索周邊環境的模樣更是可愛吸睛，讓飼育員不禁秒融化，父母愛大爆發！

古人說「只羨鴛鴦不羨仙」，殊不知海鸚鵡也是忠貞愛情的最佳代表。有別於自然界其他生物一夫多妻或一妻多夫的型態，堅守一生一世一雙人的海鸚鵡相當的專情。每年的四到八月是海鸚鵡的繁殖期，而每一對鳳頭海鸚鵡一次只產一顆蛋，由雄鳥與雌鳥共同孵育。海鸚鵡會用羽翼將蛋包圍於其中，孵化時間大約6週。孵化育雛的過程中，鳥爸爸及鳥媽媽會相互分工、各司其職；而鳥媽媽則作為孵化及育雛的主要照護者，只有在出洞覓食期間才由鳥爸爸代為照顧。
海鸚鵡靠捕食細小的海洋魚類為生，生存本領極強。而餵養幼雛的方式也並非反芻吞下的小魚，而是將小魚含在喙中帶回至巢穴。可以讓海鸚鵡爸媽花更長的時間在外獵食，這得歸功於海鸚鵡口腔的特殊結構可以讓牠們一次帶回更多的食物，以滿足幼雛龐大的胃口。目前得知的最高世界紀錄為一次帶回62條魚。而剛出生的幼雛，全身布滿不具防水、僅能保暖的炭黑色絨毛，這時的雛鳥還須靠父母的細心呵護下才能茁壯成長。待可愛的絨毛褪換成具防水功能的亞成羽後，便會開始練習游泳，邁向轉大人之路。直到性成熟階段後，才能從身上的羽衣觀察出其明顯變化；進入繁殖季的鳳頭海鸚鵡臉部愈發潔白，眼睛上方的金黃色冠羽更加耀眼；鳥喙也會增生變厚且顏色轉為鮮豔的橘紅色。
