東港分局興龍派出所警員謝侑霖、張智鈞2員於日前擔服巡邏勤務時，在新園鄉臥龍路與台17線路口，發現一隻臘腸狗趴在車流量極大的馬路上逗留，為免造成用路人行車安全及動物性命之虞，警方立即上前救援，順利挽救一條小生命。
警方表示，員警在該路段取締交通違規勤務時，看見一條黑色臘腸狗過馬路時疑似車流太大害怕而趴在車道中間，警方見狀即刻上前想將小狗趕離路旁，惟該路口車來車往非常危險，小狗疑似腿軟就趴在車道上一動也不動，只好動手將其抱起，因小狗本能害怕張嘴就咬，警員謝侑霖脫下自身反光背心當作防護將小狗抱起並放在路邊，正巧臘腸狗主人前往找尋，經警員指引後順利找到走失的臘腸狗，原來這隻臘腸狗已經十多歲，感情形同家人，且臘腸狗的眼睛已看不太清楚，今天下午趁大門未關偷跑出門，所幸遇到警方救援，才能救回一命，民眾非常感謝警方主動拯救幫忙。

東港警分局長張世儒表示，救命不分貴賤，尊重生命、動物也是寶貴生命，員警愛護動物，並迅速作出判斷，搶救臘腸狗，有助於提升警察正面形象，足為同仁表率，呼籲民眾如發現道路有障礙物或有其他狀況導致交通不順暢時，可以立即撥打110，警方將視狀況給予處置亦或聯繫相關單位協助處理。
