國道3號嘉義竹崎段，昨（13）日晚間發生1死6傷的重大車禍，北上、南下車道都有事故，先是北上車道6車連環撞，其中由36歲呂姓男子駕駛的自小客車，先撞上前方車輛後，又先後被後方2部來車撞擊，力道之大，整個人竟噴飛，重摔到南下內側車道路肩，駕駛人看到急踩剎車閃避，又造成5車撞成一團，場面混亂。

國道8隊警方調查，昨晚8時09分國道3號292公里處北上、南下車道發生追撞事故，多人受困車內，嘉縣消防局派遣中埔、三和及嘉市消防隊緊急趕往救援，當下全線暫時封閉。

警消到達現場時，發現北上車道有6車撞擊，南下車道則有5車撞擊，現場零件散落一地，相當混亂，北上車道有一名年約34歲的男性患者，有胸口及肢體疼痛情形，由三和91送往嘉義基督教醫院，而噴飛到南下內側車道路肩的36歲呂姓男子則是頭部變形，已經明顯死亡並未送醫；南下車道總計有9名傷者，2名送聖馬爾定醫院、3名送嘉義基督教醫院、有4名不需就醫。

在場的目擊駕駛驚魂未定，他說當時行駛在北向車道，看到前車煞車燈一亮，就連忙跟著踩煞車，還是停不住撞了上去，同時間聽到接連碰撞聲，還看到零件飛出，幸好自己沒有大礙。

國道8隊警方表示，事發地點北上292公里處有6部車追撞，造成1死1傷；南下292.2公里則是5部車擦撞，共有5人受傷，事故現場在昨晚11時15排除，全線恢復通車。
