嘉義縣出現今年首例日本腦炎病例，無國內外旅遊史，衛生局已針對確診者工作地點及住屋周圍進行病媒蚊調查、噴藥及誘蚊燈懸掛等防治工作，衛生局提醒6至7月是日本腦炎流行高峰期，民眾應加強居家環境孳生源清除注意防蚊。

嘉義縣衛生局指出，民雄鄉49歲男子因發燒就醫未改善，18日出現抽搐、意識不清就醫，23日確診日本腦炎，目前加護病房治療中，疫調發現男子服務的工廠旁雜草叢生，前有大排溝、附近有水稻田，並發現1處日本腦炎病媒蚊陽性點，衛生局已完成工作地點及住家周圍病媒蚊調查，同時採取化學防治噴藥及掛燈誘捕病媒蚊等防治工作。

今日防疫快報解說登革熱及日本腦炎防治重點，衛生局長趙紋華指出，夏天是登革熱及日本腦炎高峰期，傳染媒介包括三斑家蚊、環紋家蚊及白頭家蚊等，喜歡孶生於水田、灌溉溝渠、池塘、草地積水、大型容器，民眾應避免在黃昏與黎明，病媒蚊吸血高峰期時段，在以上高風險環境活動，如無法避免應穿淺色長袖衣褲保護。

衛生局呼籲平時應注意居家環境衛生，落實「巡、倒、清、刷」，不留下積水，做好病媒蚊孳生源清除工作，可使用捕蚊燈、加裝紗窗紗門，睡覺時掛蚊帳等防疫措施，避免蚊蟲孳生叮咬，降低登革熱及日本腦炎感染風險。
趙紋華提醒，疫苗接種是預防日本腦炎最有效的方法，滿15個月以上的幼兒應依接種期程完成日本腦炎疫苗接種，另提醒國內57年次以上民眾及新住民未接種疫苗，如自覺有感染風險（如養豬戶業者），可前往各醫院旅遊門診，縣內有長庚醫院提供服務，可經醫師評估是否自費接種成人疫苗。
