徐國勇在擔任內政部長任內，不斷從制度面及實際行動，支持和體恤基層警消人員。
資深媒體人韋安臉書表示，在殺警案發生的當天，嫌犯尚未抓到，台南出生的愛爾麗集團董事長常如山，就向徐國勇表達要捐款100萬，讓徐國勇對家屬表達慰問之意，此事相當低調，並未向外界公布，徐國勇也已交代台南市警局接手處理後續。
徐國勇在擔任內政部長任內，不斷從制度面及實際行動，支持和體恤基層警消人員。如為樹立警察權威，促成《刑法》修正，聚眾鬥毆現在已經能以現行犯逮捕，相關刑責也加重，另民眾若襲警，最高可判處有期徒刑5年。此外徐國勇也相當重視國道警察的執勤安全，除爭取每月發給危險加給外，也向行政院爭取，大型貨車加裝緩撞設備，巡邏車加裝電動升降LED警示燈，來提升國道警執勤安全。此外，也興建新北市中和區警消社會住宅總戶數317戶，方便讓調派雙北生活圈的警消人員於外地執勤時入住。
資深媒體人韋安臉書說，徐國勇不論在公務上極力爭取，或是私底下發揮個人影響力，積極協助改善警消執勤環境，更時常低調關心警消生活日常，讓基層相當暖心。
