屏鵝公路因「種樹百里」道路工程動工以來，引發塞車、路不平車胎爆胎避震器損壞等民怨，前日晚間疑似又引發一場車禍意外。車城鄉一位8旬老翁於7日晚間穿越台26線車城鄉中山、田中路口時，疑因中央分隔島施工的包商挖斷路燈電線，致路燈未亮、視線昏暗，被自小客車撞上，送醫急救傷仍重不治。

恆春分局表示 10月7日晚間19時許，一位張姓民眾於車城鄉中山、田中路口穿越馬路，遭中山路北上內側快車道一台自小客車撞上，警消獲報後立即趕往現場，由消防人員將張姓民眾送至恆春旅遊醫院急救，初步檢查張民頭部、四肢外傷、肺臟破裂，當日21時因傷重宣告不治。自小客車吳姓駕駛無受傷，經警方對其實施呼氣酒精濃度測試，酒測值為0MG/L。因本件事故雙方當事人皆無飲酒，警方持續調查肇事原因。
