111年地方公職人員選舉將於11月26日舉行，東港警分局新園分駐所於10月31日14時58分接獲110報案稱，新園鄉港墘村內產業道路有選舉旗幟遭破壞，警方獲報立即趕往現場發現村長黃姓候選人旗幟遭破壞，經調閱周遭監視器釐清案發經過，於18時許鎖定楊男涉案，通知到案後依毀損及選舉罷免法罪嫌函送偵辦。

警方表示，各級參選人為尋求選民支持，在街道巷弄都可以看到許多競選看板、布條、旗幟等，由於正值選舉期間，新園鄉港墘村內的競選旗幟竟傳遭人破壞，事涉暴力選舉警方不敢大意立即成立專案小組，經積極調閱相關路口監視器及查訪附近居民，順利鎖定居住高雄市大寮區18歲楊姓男子，經通知到案表示係因不滿競選旗幟布幔擋住路口反光鏡影響視線，即下車將旗幟折斷，全案經偵詢後依毀損及選舉罷免法罪嫌函送屏東地檢署偵辦。
東港警分局長張世儒強調，破壞參選人選舉看板、旗幟、布條等行為除觸犯刑法第354條毀損罪外，如妨害候選人競選，更違反公職人員選罷法第98條，可處5年以下有期徒刑，選民如遇旗幟擋住視線應請候選人派人移置適當位置，不要做出類似犯行。選舉投票是憲法所保障人民的參政權，警方將秉持「保障合法、取締非法、防制暴力」等安全維護原則，對於違法企圖干擾選舉情事，必將全力偵辦排除任何不法，達成「投票前平安、投票日平順、開票後平穩」三大目標。
