英國女子使用快篩時，不慎將棉棒卡在喉嚨。
疫情下許多民眾一有不適，就會在家先行快篩，而在英國有一名女子，同樣在察覺到症狀後，決定自行快篩，取樣時卻不慎將棉棒插進喉嚨，一度導致呼吸困難，最終緊急送醫才撿回一命。
根據紐約郵報報導，31 歲的英國女子芭比（Bobby Lee）育有兩個孩子，一次夜班結束後感到身體微恙，於是決定在家快篩。然而意外發生了，她不小心吞下 COVID-19 採樣用的咽喉拭子——「一根長達15公分的棉花棒」。
「當我擦拭我的喉嚨後部時，我有點作嘔，突然棍子在我嘴裡彈了一下，然後卡在我的喉嚨後方」，芭比回憶當時窘況，棉棒的前端插在喉嚨裡，後端則從喉嚨伸出顯露在外，她試圖用手取出，卻反而把棉棒愈推愈深，接著她乾脆將棉棒吞進肚子，導致棉棒再度向下滑動，卡在了腸道。
後來芭比甚至開始出現呼吸困難，於是緊急赴醫急診，透過手術才將棉棒成功取出，她表示，「醫生用相機拍下我喉嚨的照片，顯示棉棒靠近我的腸子，但它必須從我嘴裡取出來，否則很可能刺穿腸子」。經此一事，芭比心有餘悸地說，「這真的很可怕，我差點就死掉了」。
